about

This is a unique mashup of two Christmas Carols: A German carol, “Es Ist Ein Ros Entsprungen” ("Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming”) and a French carol, "Entre Le Boeuf et l’âne gris" (sometimes called "Mid Ox and Ass" in English).
The verses/main vocals are "Lo, How a Rose" in English, while the background, wordless vocals are the melody of "Entre Le Boeuf".
This was the fourth and final installment in our Youtube quartet of Advent 2013 recordings/videos, although we used a slightly different recording of the song for the video.
Please enjoy!

lyrics

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming
from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming,
as men of old have sung.
It came, a flow’ret bright,
amid the cold of winter,
when half spent was the night.

Isaiah ‘twas foretold it,
the Rose I have in mind;
with Mary we behold it,
the virgin mother kind.
To show God’s love aright,
she bore to us a Savior,
when half spent was the night.

The shepherds heard the story
proclaimed by angels bright,
how Christ, the Lord of glory
was born on earth this night.
To Bethlehem they sped
and in the manger found Him,
as angel heralds said.
